About Me
Iris Young: Weaver of words, teller of stories
Published in The Press (SAIT Journalism), Southwall Magazine (Cebu)
I’m an unapologetic INTJ, running on caffeine and good intentions most days. My coping mechanisms include getting lost in whatever place strikes my fancy and spending copious amounts of time ogling cute animals on the internet.
Naturally, I write.
I started journaling as an angst-filled teenager in the 90s, inevitably segueing into angst-filled blogging. Eventually, I found that I could make an honest living out of this aptitude for the written word.
In the last decade and a half, I’ve soldiered on as a freelance writer (and now, editor), producing web and corporate content like my life depended on it (and for a while, it did). But feeling unfulfilled and often burnt out, I decided to challenge this self-imposed status quo.
In 2021, I traded in sunny Cebu for freezing Calgary to join SAIT’s Journalism program. Now, I’m a second-year student journalist majoring in print and online journalism with a burgeoning toolkit of knowledge and skill that I’m eager to deploy in the real world.
And just like that, I’m no longer just a writer (and editor). I’m a living, breathing journalist and storyteller.
Welcome to my space.
