Your Bridal Gifts and More

Gift giving is an integral part of the wedding celebration, and bridal gifts are always something to look forward to. Okay, you may and up with maybe three or four starter sets of flatware, a couple of silverware sets, and perhaps a fair amount of cookware, but do remember that these bridal gifts were given to you because you would be setting up your new home. They are also (probably) not telling you that a woman’s place is in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant. So do give the bridal gifts you receive a chance since it’s a “till death do us part” promise. After all, know that plates do break, silverware have their own way of disappearing one by one, and cookware do get worn out. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

By all means, avoid the temptation of “recycling” gifts. You may end up giving it back to the original giver, which is not only embarrassing, but very rude, as well. Also, don’t think “bridal gifts”; think “future heirlooms”, instead, including those his-and-hers types of personalized wedding gifts.

Giving something back to your entourage is also a good idea. It wasn’t their wedding, but they did invest some time and effort in something that they have very little to no stake in, didn’t they?

The maid of honor gifts and best man gifts – assuming that the best mand and maid-of-honor are you and your new husband’s nearest and dearest – can be a tad more special than the bridesmaid gifts and groomsmen gifts. So that the bridesmaid and the groomsmen will not feel left out and the maid-of-honor and best man will feel extra appreciated, buy them gifts that are somewhat similar, but not exactly alike. If you’re thinking jewelry for the bridesmaids, find one that’s a bit pricier for your maid-of-honor. If you want to get cufflinks for the groomsmen, get them silver and perhaps just a touch of gold for the best man.

Women are generally better at picking gifts, anyway, so you might as well put this on your to-do list. If not, your groom might take the mantle, and, heaven forbid, the ladies may end up getting something inappropriate, and the gentlemen may end up with power tools.

Black American Express Credit Cards: Legends Come to Life

Imagine a credit card so powerful that you can use it to purchase anything from a jet plane to a jar of sand from the Dead Sea. Such is the power of the legendary black American Express credit cards.

The Centurion Card, most commonly known as black American Express credit cards, is American Express’ most exclusive credit card, which provides a range of very exclusive privileges. There are supposedly fewer than 10,000 black American Express credit cards issued worldwide. You can’t get more prestigious than that!

Urban Legend

The black American Express credit cards’ origin is very mysterious. A rumor back in the 1980’s circulated about a black-colored credit card with unlimited purchasing power, issued exclusively for celebrities and dignitaries. Furthermore, these black-colored credit cards supposedly granted after-hours access to most high-end stores.

Although some people still insist that these cards existed, there is no conclusive proof that the black credit card existed during that time. Either way, American Express capitalized on the free publicity provided by the rumors and launched the black American Express credit cards in 1999.

Take Notice

Little is known about the black American Express credit cards. It’s not even listed on the American Express website. Far from being obscure, however, this veil of mystery just makes the credit card even more appealing.

The black American Express credit cards are made of pure titanium. This is probably its most appealing feature. They are  so heavy, in fact, that they can set off metal detectors.

Being made of metal, the magnetic strip doesn’t work with most credit card scanners. Of course, high-end shops and boutiques have the facilities to accommodate black American Express credit cards. Smaller shops, however, require the card numbers to be keyed-in manually.

With all these distinguishing features, the Black American Express credit cards are, indeed, designed to be noticed.

How to Get One

While most credit card companies relentlessly pursue you to apply for a credit card, the black American Express credit cards do the exact opposite. These credit cards are so exclusive that you can’t just apply for one out of the blue. Instead, you need a special invitation just to be considered for one.

In order to get an invite, you need to be an American Express cardholder with an excellent credit standing. Not only that, you must charge an average of $250,000 a year to qualify.

The black American Express credit cards also charge a gargantuan annual fee. When it started, the annual fee was at $1,000, but this has since increased to a whopping $2,500.

Benefits

The black American Express credit cards come with a personal concierge, complete with a direct phone number and e-mail address, dedicated to do the cardholder’s bidding – as long as it is legal, of course. The personal concierge has been known to make travel arrangements and even find elusive tickets to sold-out events at very short notice.

As if that isn’t impressive enough, the black American Express credit cards also provide other exclusive privileges, like complimentary companion airline tickets on trans-Atlantic flights, personal shoppers at high-end shops like Gucci and Saks Fifth Avenue, and a complimentary suite in any Mandarin Oriental hotel worldwide every year.

Indeed, with the black American Express credit cards, all you ever need to think about is what you should buy today.
